The paper studies the psychological nature of assistance to the other person as a means of selfactualization. In this empirical study help was regarded as a special system of action which mediates the activation of the mechanisms of self-development, in particular, self-actualization. There were three groups of participants identified – tending to help, indifferent and not tending to help. These groups have specific psychological characteristics, which are expressed in the style of interpersonal relations and the self-image. It was shown that individuals who are inclined to help others, have higher levels of self-actualization.
